Does the world really need another project management tool?

Emmanuel is an old man, but don't remind him of that. He spent too many years as a project manager, for video games, web applications, and even hard-core industrial projects. The scars run deep. Most of his evenings and week-ends are devoted to video games, board games, and miniature painting. That's what happens when you get old.

Sure it does :3

We all know that the creation, prioritization and monitoring of tasks (or ‘to-dos’) form the basic vocabulary of just about every group attempting to complete a project, big or small.

Yet when you look at the proliferation of project management and to-do apps, it’s clear that there is no simple answer to any of these needs, much less all the other jobs that need to be done in that context.

When Daniel and I embarked on this little adventure of ours, we were well aware that we were entering dangerous territory.

First, there already are plenty of products out there - some that we even love and use ourselves (hello Trello!).

But it’s also supremely hard to build something that our audience will love.

And by audience, I am not just talking about the 1% of the team who wear the project manager hat.

I am talking about the other 99%, the majority of whom experience project management tools in much the same way they experience visiting their in-laws.

Therefore yes, there is plenty of room for experimentation and improvement.

In the next series of posts, I will talk about what brought us to focusing on game developers, and some of the core tenets that drive our current work.

Soon enough we’ll be sharing some screenshots of our work-in-progress.

Stay frosty.
